P. 8

Gordon Prescott
Head of Chemistry and Master in Charge of Timetable
What brought you to Hymers College?
I had been teaching in Merseyside for 20 years and was ready for a change. Hymers is a signi cantly bigger school in comparison and I was given greater responsibility in a Chemistry Department larger than what I was used to.
What did you do before joining?
I was Head of Chemistry at Birkenhead School in Merseyside.
If you had to describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?
Committed / Positive / Passionate.
What frightens you the most?
If you could only have three songs on your iPod, what would they be?
• I’m Going to See You Today – Joyce Grenfell. • When Peace Like A River (Hymn).
• Di erent Drum - The Stone Poneys.
Who or what makes you laugh?
The absurdities of life.
Where in the world would you visit and why?
Australia. I’d visit my sister in Melbourne and see an Ashes series. I’m also intrigued by the Australian laid-back outlook on life.
What is your favourite lm?
I’d say ‘What’s Up, Doc?’ as it’s funny, has strong characters, good acting and the good guys win.
If you could have dinner with anyone past or present, who would it be and why?
William Wilberforce – he was known to be a really genuine character and those around him were said to be amazed by his attitude.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
“If students do what we ask to the best of their ability and listen to the feedback, they will do well. And if they don’t, they won’t!”
If you were an animal, what would you be?
A turtle, as some of the children liken me to Kung Fu Panda’s Master Oogway. However, I would prefer to be an owl because of their wise reputation and ability to catch vermin.
