 76 I THE HYMERIAN
MUSIC
JUNIOR SCHOOL CHRISTMAS CONCERT
The Junior School Christmas Concert, held in the
Main Hall, was a wonderful evening of music making with both Christmassy items as well as other pieces
the children had been learning throughout the term. With around 170 children involved in some way, the hall was full, and the evening began with the orchestra playing Walking in the Air. This was followed by the Junior String group’s version of Jingle Bells and the Wind Band’s Jingle Jive. The Recorder Ensemble played
the carol Infant Holy before the Year 5 and 6 Dance groups took to the stage to entertain. All three Junior Choirs then followed, the first being the Year 4s in their debut performance, singing Alouette. The Year 5 Choir enjoyed singing their favourite piece, The Moon and the 63-strong Year 6 Choir ended the concert singing The Rhythm of Life and God Bless Us Everyone. Well done to all the children and a huge thank you to all the wonderful music staff!
COTTINGHAM AND CLEETHORPES MUSIC FESTIVAL 2017
The Year 4 and Year 5 Choirs participated in the annual Cottingham Music Festival, which took place at Cottingham Methodist Church in February. For the Year 4s, this was their first competition and they sang with enthusiasm, gaining two second place certificates. The Year 5 Choir, singing songs including Gonna Rise Up Singing and The Moon, managed to gain the first prize in the School Choir class, the School Choir Hymn singing class and the School Choir unaccompanied singing. After being invited to sing
in the Celebration Concert, they were also delighted to receive the award for the best choir at the festival.
The Recorder Ensemble also enjoyed success, once again winning the trophy for their category. Elodie and Amy won the recorder duet class and Reuben won the recorder solo class.
