OH AND CHEMICAL ENGINEER RETURNS TO HYMERS
Tom Kitching (at Hymers 2003 – 2010) revisited Hymers on Friday 20th October. As a STEM ambassador (which stands for the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and chemical engineer currently working at Fichtner Consulting Engineers,
he contacted us and offered to take a senior school assembly about his work. He also gave up his time to talk to sixth formers about Manchester University where he completed his Masters in Chemical Engineering and the industry he is very much involved in.
A SUNNY BBQ IN BUCKS!
Martyn and Jeanette Green hosted their annual Southern Branch BBQ on Sunday 22nd July at their home in Missenden, Buckinghamshire.
Blessed with lovely weather, Old Hymerians, friends and neighbours of the Greens enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of good food, wine and company; the perfect opportunity to make new acquaintances.
OH SPORTS PRESENTERS RETURN FOR LECTURE PROGRAMME
Two Old Hymerians made return visits to their alma mater on Tuesday 6th March. Former Premiership footballer, David Prutton (left Hymers in 1998), who is now working for Sky Sports and BBC Presenter, Damian Johnson (at Hymers 1972 – 1976), returned to Hymers to take part in the Sixth Form Lecture programme.
This lecture took a slight departure from the usual format as two current Year 13s; George Webster and Angus Brocklesby turned the tables somewhat and took the opportunity of interviewing the visiting presenters.
In asking David and Damian to reflect on their careers they gave a fascinating insight into their lives as sports presenters; Damian spoke of the time he interviewed
his boyhood hero, Pele, and David told the story of his infamous sending off against Arsenal in 2005.
